On International Peace Day, 455 People Fast for Darfur
To commemorate International Peace Day, 455 people, including numerous celebrity activists, are participating in a water-only fast to raise awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur, nearly seven years after the genocide there began. Headlining today’s effort are actors Don Cheadle and Mia Farrow, Sir Richard Branson, Pamela Omidyar, and John Prendergast.
The Darfur Fast for Life began on April 27th when Mia Farrow began a 12-day hunger strike. Over the past several months, hundreds of activists, artists, athletes, and members of Congress took part in the fasting chain in solidarity with the people of Darfur who continue to suffer at the hands of the Sudanese government. For a complete list of participants in today's fast, visit FastDarfur.org.
