NBA Star Luol Deng Headlines Darfur Dream Team Fundraiser
Chicago Bulls star and Darfur Dream Team member Luol Deng will take the stage with Enough’s John Prendergast this Thursday at a reception in Chicago benefiting the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools Program. Enough and the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center are co-hosting the event “Education for A Generation,” which will feature an art auction and presentations by influential political figures and activists.
The event will take place this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Union League of Chicago. In addition to Deng and Prendergast, featured speakers will include Richard S. Hirschhaut, executive director of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center and Lonnie Nasatir, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League. The event generated a groundswell of support from local institutions: Local galleries donated 19 pieces of art for the auction, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Bulls donated tickets. The Union League generously provided the space for the event.
A limited number of tickets are still available for $40 each and $30 for students. Please click here to RSVP.
Luol Deng, who hails from Sudan, has joined the growing group of Darfur Dream Team co-captains that includes NBA stars Tracy McGrady, Baron Davis, Derek Fisher, Etan Thomas, and Jermaine O’Neal. Inspired by a trip to Darfuri refugee camps in 2007 with Prendergast and Enough’s Omer Ismail, Tracy McGrady teamed up with Enough to launch the Darfur Dream Team Sister Schools Program, which aims to provide education to Darfuri refugee students. Since its official launch one year ago, more than 350 U.S. schools and universities have signed up to participate. Visit DarfurDreamTeam.org to learn more.
