Presenting… The Field Dispatch

Posted by Enough Team on October 21, 2009

This week, Enough launches "Field Dispatch," a new series by our field researchers in southern Sudan, Congo, and Uganda. In Sudan, Maggie Fick will closely watch the political and humanitarian developments there in the lead up to next year’s election and the 2011 referendum on the South’s independence. In Congo, Olivia Caeymaex will report from the war-torn eastern region and Noel Atama will send updates from the capital of Kinshasa. Our Kampala-based researcher Ledio Cakaj will follow the Lord’s Resistance Army, a brutal rebel force originating in Uganda that now terrorizes eastern Congo, the Central African Republic, and southern Sudan. We hope these dispatches will be invaluable for anyone wanting regular insights about the real conditions on the ground in these troubled regions.

In the inaugural edition Enough’s Ledio Cakaj reports on former LRA fighters he recently met. These fighters have recently surrendered their weapons and returned to the town of Gulu in northern Uganda from eastern Congo, where they spent the last seven months isolated from their LRA commanders and forced to fight Congolese civilians for food.
