Sudan Highlighted in State Department Terrorism Reports

Out last week, the State Department’s annual set of Country Reports on Terrorism offers insights into the government’s thinking regarding al Qaeda and other terrorist threats. The report identifies four countries -- Iran, Syria, Cuba, and Sudan -- as “state sponsors of terrorism,” which they define as countries that “provide critical support to non-state terrorist groups.” The Sudan report offers a critique of Khartoum, but also takes pains to emphasize that Sudan remains a “cooperative partner in global counterterrorism efforts.”

Such hedging inside the report has found a critic in Senator Russ Feingold, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs. In a press release out last week, the senator noted:

"I take serious issue with the way the report overstates the level of cooperation in our counterterrorism relationship with Sudan, a nation which the U.S. classifies as a state sponsor of terrorism. A more accurate assessment is important not only for effectively countering terrorism in the region, but as part of a review of our overall policy toward Sudan, including U.S. pressure to address the ongoing crisis in Darfur and maintain the fragile peace between the North and the South.  I have communicated my concerns to the administration, and I hope that it will provide the public with a more accurate assessment in the near future."

Sudan is a priority for this administration, particularly at a time when it cries out for peace and for justice. The worsening humanitarian crisis there makes our task all the more urgent.

Sudan Highlighted in State Department Terrorism Report

The question is: Who gave the US the right to judge and evaluate others? What has the State Department to tell the world about the scandals of Iraq and Afghanistan, don't they think that it is time to stop the killing after more than seven years now? Bush retired but his war project in Iraq and Afghanistan is still going on. If terror has a father, it is America. It is time for wise American to take part regaining the world trust on America and try to rebuild America to lead good deeds and not the world by wisdom and wise policy. Those who judge others and forget themselves will never make it, they are doomed to bear the sin and punishment when the time comes. Nobody must ever think that he can go on accusing others and killing innocent people without paying for it. If the State Department is honest, their report should include the Bush administration aggression against Iraq, air raids against civilians, taking people to prisons around the world, Guantanamo detainees -aren't all these terrorism acts??? We are really fed up of what is going on. We have had enough of this disorder in the name of order. Nations will never accept being crushed for ever because they are weak; this is against the nature of human beings. Pressure leads to explosion, big one. I humbly say to the State Department: WAKE UP before it is too late.
