UN Experts' Report On Congo Released

The much talked about UN Group of Experts’ report on the Democratic Republic of the Congo was finally officially released to the public. Notably, the report reveals that military operations against the Hutu rebel group, the FDLR, have largely failed to dismantle the organization, that the FDLR is supported by a vast network of local, regional, and international actors, and that the exploitation of minerals in the region, particularly gold and cassiterite, or tin ore, directly finances the rebel group’s operations.

Be warned—this in-depth and revelatory investigation into the networks of eastern Congo does not short change the situation, clocking in at nearly 300 pages of findings, including 126 annexes!
