Enough Co-Chair Gayle Smith and Advisor Omer Ismail discussed

the

weekend rebel attack on a suburb of Sudan's capital Khartoum. The fighting in the capital between the

rebel group, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and government forces beginning on May 9th, was

a

dramatic escalation of the conflict in Sudan, and the Sudanese government immediately began to

retaliate. The attack complicated the already tense relationship with Chad and brings even more

violence

to Darfur. The call provided fresh perspectives, analysis, and recommendations on how to prevent a

further deterioration of the crisis in Sudan.
